Genesis 35:16-18 Rachel began to give birth and had great difficulty. And as she was having great difficulty in childbirth, the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for you have another son." As she breathed her last--for she was dying--she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin.
Ben-Oni apparently means, "Son of my Troubles." But we think that the bible was just being polite as the above comic reveals the true situation behind the naming ordeal with Ben.
A lot of mothers probably have this problem when giving birth. I mean, you've seen how chicks all scream and turn into Satan (the mass media version, not the real version 'cause that version would be all having a party and offering mixed drinks to everyone). At least they do in the movies, and since that's the closest I ever want to be to a woman in labor, I will have to accept that to be an at least somewhat true depiction of a mother at birth.
If such is the case, it might explain things like misspelling kids' perfectly normal names like Jasyn, Tomas, or Cristeena. You can't really expect a woman who looks like Rachel in panel four to spell her kid's name correctly on the birth certificate. Hell, sometimes they can't even come up with a name at all. When asked the kid's name they spout out non-names like: Rainbow, Legolas, Hank, etc. etc.. Surely we should adopt a new system where the mother is allowed a period to think the name over. Like, perhaps, say ten years? Then the kid can just decide themselves. Until then, let's all be numbers. Since, you know, we already are anyway.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. You know what? For my thoughts on today's comic, just see the previous commentary. If I think about birth any more I'm going to hurl. In fact I just threw up a little in my mouth right now. |
